...sunburned...

playground
***
I usually wouldn't be thrilled that my child has a sunburn....but, the fact that it's even possible to get one is just wonderful! Spring is almost here..thank heavens.
Don't get me wrong...I feel incredibly guilty that his little face and forehead are fried crispy...but 3 hours at the park today was heaven. Complete heaven.
***
I could have stayed all day.
****
I spread out a blanket...packed plenty of snacks and toys...AND let him run free for hours. I'm a little over protective you could say...and for the first few trips to the park this season I stuck right to his side and catered to his every move. I would sit him down, catch him as he slid down the whole 2 foot long baby slide...the works. It was pretty pathetic I tell ya. After our 3rd trip...I could feel the stares from the 20 other mothers. I was the ONLY mother NOT relaxing on a blanket and INSTEAD babying their Not-So-Much-A-Baby Toddler:)
****
I had to breathe in and out a few times and convince myself to "LET-GO".
This summer he's not my baby. Last summer he was...but no longer. Yes...I feel tears even now as I type hours later:( I am the most overly-emtional mother ever.
****
I'm pretty proud of myself...because I sat back (and visited with my good friend Pam and her girls) and learned that HE IS CAPABLE of way more than I thought. That a boy Jaxson.
*****
He climbed to the highest peak...went down the tube slides on his tummy...the works.
ALL WITHOUT MY HELP.

He also pulled some pretty priceless faces. What on earth is that?
The nose scrunch is the only dominant trate I passed on...Great...Just Great.

It was a wonderful afternoon...and we are looking forward to the weekend...(and to our next play date in a few days with the parson girls!)
***
Jarom has the alumni basketball tournament this weekend...and Jaxson can't stop talking about going to his daddy's game! It will be entertaining to watch the Class of '97 take the court again together and go at it....each of them 30 pounds heavier than the good old days...I'm sure.
The joys of getting old.

Oh I love the little scrunch nose and it's even better that it's the one trait that he got from his mommy.:) I'm lovin' the warm weather too but I haven't been able to get out much and enjoy it.:( Sounds like you and Jaxson are soaking up the sun! Hey, how did the Modbe party go?

Hi Kristin:
I randomly came across your blog this morning and reading about your son's sunburn compelled me to write. You are not alone with the tinge of guilt occuring ... we've all been there! I freak out even when my guys get a hint of pink. But I have more reason for concern as my late husband died from skin cancer when he was 32 years old. I actually started a company called UV Skinz because of my experience. UV Skinz manufactures UV swim shirts and UV clothing for the entire family. Have you heard of UV swim shirts? I know I may be a bit biased, the I swear they are the coolest invention! (And I didn't invent them, just brought them more awareness in the US as they were first invented in Australia.) Anyhow, I didn't mean to write a novel on your blog! If there is ever any interest in reviewing or doing a give-away on your blog site, let me know. I would be happy to send a sample UV Skinz to you. You can also check our more about the company and my story at our website, www.uvskinz.com. Thanks for reading ... keep enjoying those sunny days!

So cute little Jaxson is. I know what you mean when you say you are an over protective mother. Aaron always tells me I'm an over the top mom. You just can't help it though. It's like it was installed when we were created and it is just a feature that came with the package right? Well I tend to think it's a good thing, but also that we can sit and watch our little ones grow and show how independent they really are. I can't wait to watch Kayson do the same thing, but at the same time I too will be sheding a few tears.
