DREAM CAMERA???

Ok- I need some help. I have been leaving random comments on people's blog about what kind of nice cameras they have. Or what they would recommend.
A camera is precisely what I have recently been begging for... (Valentines Day...or more likely my b-day because I'll have to save my $$$:) Anyhow...I have been searching back through old posts and reading all the comments to find the ones in which people shared their "camera advice" and I thought it would be easier to post and BEG all those of you with wonderful photography skills or camera knowledge to share some tips! What is the best camera? Or just a wonderful one that is easy to use, not to complicated, but AWESOME. I want to get into photography....or have a camera that is good enought to make me look like I know what I'm doing!!!! I have heard a lot about a NIKON and also the canon SLR and canon XTI? What is the difference, does anybody know?
I want this camera to last for ever...be amazing...and let me blow pictures up GIGANTIC while still looking perfect:) Any tips would be much appreciated! I am about to start my researching....so give me a list to look at!
~thanks~

Kristin, Your blog always looks so cute! I love your new layout. How do you do your Title picture? Do you use photoshop? I don't know anything about cameras, but I hear great things about the canon one. I want one! :)

We have a Nikon D40X. It's awesome! It takes pictures so fast so we actually get a picture of what we wanted. It says that you can blow up the pictures to be poster size and they will still be great. I haven't been able to experiment with it too much yet, but it comes with a HUGE book to read about everything and I know that if I sat down and read it I could do some amazing things! :) It is supposed to be a lot like Chels' Canon, just the Nikon version.

I love the Canon Digital Rebel SLR. It is 8 MP. which will let you blow up pictures HUGE. LOVE LOVE it. I am a professional photographer and it is perfect for all my jobs and taking pictures of everyday things like my kiddos. I think that canon is the best on the market. The Rebel runs at about $700 now. Comes with kit lense. It is nice too cause there are SO many differnt lenses that you can buy for it and interchange. I have about 5 lenses and some acessories. I could write you a novel about how much I love my camera and all the research I have done :) Also, if you are looking for a great photography book, read "Understanding Exposue" byt Bryan Peterson.

I don't think you can go wrong with either a nikon or a cannon. Both are great I'm sure. I choose the cannon rebel xti it has 10 megapixels.I mostly got it because thats what Hazen (Who I totally trust) uses and All my family. Just look at the pixels whatever you buy. Thats most important to me. The more megapixels the clearer and bigger picture. For as much money as your going to spend it has to be great no matter what you get right? So don't worry I think its all pretty much the same You will Love it it makes the biggest difference!! Im excited for you.. Happy shopping.. p.s We got ours on Amazon for an amazing deal:)

I think if I were you, I would get the Nikon D40x. Small, light, easy to pack around, HIGH RESOLUTION. If you go with something like the regular D40 or basic rebel (i think), you probably can't enlarge any bigger than a 16x20 withought some headache. Go for it! You won't regret it no matter if you go Cannon or Nikon. I know and love Nikon, but I have heard Cannons are actually more user friendly as far as figuring out how to use them. Who knows. I think it's personal preference.

This is my two sense for whatever it's worth. I spent forever researching digital SLR's (and I had forever since I had to save so much $$). I ended up with the Nikon D50 (which they don't sell anymore because the new and improved is the D40 or D40x). I have been very happy with my camera. The most important thing to me was the shutter speed. I wanted to catch the moment and using one of the point and shoot cameras just wasn't going to cut it since the delay time is SOOO long. I also wanted more control and to get a camera I could grow with. I would definitely stick with either a Nikon or a Canon. These two put out very similar products. Megapixels are misleading. More pixels doesn't necessarily mean better quality of photos. It means you are able to enlarge photos or crop in and enlarge and and still get a great photo. Most people usually don't enlarge bigger than 16x20 and you can easily get a great enlargement this size with a 5 or 6 megapixel camera. I went to a lot of different stores and had people explain the cameras to me. That helped. Some have detachable lenses, other don't. Would you want to have other lenses, maybe a telephoto lens or wide angle lens. I only have experience with Nikon but have nothing but great things to say about their products. They have made the D40 a great (somewhat affordable) digital SLR that is user friendly. Ok this has gone on way too long...but I'm passionate about this.
Hope this helps in anyway. Good luck!
